MAF to Air cleaner

My connection between the maf and air cleaner is not a tight fit. It just kinda lays in there, I see an oring there, should that be a tight fit and what kind of problems could that give me?Yhanks.

I'm not sure what your car looks like, but a stock '86 TA MAF and air intake tube setup looks a lot like this:

There is a clamp at each end of the MAF semsor, and at the joint between the air duct and the air cleaner assembly.

well my clamp is missing that is holding the elbow portion into the air filter ***. With a loose fittingthere could that cause this kind of problem. when I am going about 25 with no pressure on pedal the rpms will go from 100 to about 1300 or 1400 and then back to 1000? The ses light is on with a 33 code.
