Screw in rocker arm studs
Screw in rocker arm studs
I have a set of L31 vortec heads, I,am wanting to install a set of screw in rocker arm studs. What I need to know is will the Summit brand or regular screw in studs work Ok in those heads. these are the type that you have to machine the boss. I hope they will work OK because I ordered a set. I had a guy tell me that those type won't work on some late model heads. I would really appreciate some feedback on this. Thanks NORT
no idea about summit studs, i prefer and use ARP screw in studs. 7/16x3/8 or 7/16x7/16. i mill .400 off the stud boss and the set the head up in my drill press to tap the holes. if you have SA rockers and/or don't use guide plates you'll have to knock the top few threads off ,i use a 7/16 drill in a tap wrench and a counter sink in a drill press,to accomodate the radius under the hex on the studs. i know jegs makes studs that require no machine work other than tapping the threads.

I used the simple 'no machining' screw in studs from jegs. Actually they are made by mr gasket and labeled as 'street screw in studs'...
All you need to do is tap the hole, put some sealer on the threads, double nut it and tighten 'em down. I have about 20,000 on them so far with no probs.
