burning very rich?
burning very rich?
ok,,,,My slave cylinder line burst one day,,,
I had it towed home, and when i started it up
it would not idle. It had a strong oder of gas along with dark smoke from the exhaust.
I have a holley 750 dual feed carb. The car ran fine before it broke. Could it be a carb problem? It was towed on a rollback. when it was loaded on the rollback,it was lifted at a pretty steep angle,,Could this have maybe
messed up the metering system in the carb?
any help would be great
thanks

11S,
I doubt that the tilt did anything to the carburetor itself, but anything is possible. It's possible the tilting may have loosened some debris in the fuel tank, which slugged the filter when you started the car, and pushed dirty fuel sediment into the carb by blowing past the relief spring on the filter. Like I said, it's possible.
Did you try tap-testing the floats or checking the float level through the level screws?
The hydraulic oil should have had no adverse effects on the carb, so either the towing or a coincidence is the culprit.

I would agree with the tilting may have "hung" a float in the carb. Now it dumps fuel when you try to run it. Tap the bowls and see if it goes away.

How long did you run it? You may have just dumped some fuel from the fuel bowls down into the intake when it was at the steep angle. About 30 seconds or so at moderate idle should clear it out if thats what happened. You 'should' be able to tip a carb up side down, then back around right side up without sticking a float.
