160* thermostat
when my car was stock it ran very very cold. I did some mods to it and somewhere along the line something went wrong. My guess is that this occured durring the smog pump removal. whenever i drive my car it overheats. it goes to and sometimes past the 220* mark on the gauge. I never had done that before. so i put in a 160* thermostat and changed my coolent. went out to test it last night and it still was running hot(wtf)! Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

Just putting in a 160 stat is not going to fix your problem. The natural running temp of a third gen is about 220* that is when the primary fan kicks in so with it running at that temp it isnt bad yet but if it runs at 240* then there is a problem. One fix you can do is change the fan switch so that it kicks on at 176* and off at 166* or you can put in a switch that kicks on at 205* and off at 185*. The first one is made by Hypertech and the second one is made by Jet. I have the same problem and am broke right now but I am going to get a fan switch to help mine and if it persists I will do try and fugre other things out to fix it.
You didn't remove the air dam from the underside of your radiator did you?

Hypertech sells both heat ranges. I got the Jet Stage 2 Chip, but I got the Hypertech on@200, off @185 with a GM 180 t-stat. I've heard that Hypertech's fan switchs are much more accurate than Jet's. Just what I heard.
