car idles at 1700 rpm, new iac valve still not closing
Hi,
My car ( 87 305 tpi trans am) has been idling way too high and overheating lately and i can't figure out why. i thought it was the idle air control valve so i replaced that, but after cleaning out the throttle body it jsut made the problem worse. I am sure the iac is stuck open because i plugged up the iac valve air hole in the throttle body and the engine idled normally. is my computer fried or something? is there anyway i could run a wire from the battery to the iac to get it to close and then jsut leave it disconnected so it will idle normally if i need to drive somewhere before i get this fixed?
thanks for any help,
Jeff

What you could try is the jumping the ALDL, look through the Techcentral article for "minimum air speed" adjustment.
Once you have the IAC extended, unplug it and leave it.
You can also just remove it, extend it some, reintsall it without the connector as well.
