oil pan leaking
I recently did some engine mods, cam, timing chain & gears,etc...
I did it all with the engine in the car, the oil pan to timing chain cover has leaked ever since. So I jacked up the engine and dropped the oil pan and changed the gasket. It still leaks a little at the t.c. cover, but it seems to leak even more around the pan. I was thinking it may be easier to just pull the engine and redo the t.c. gasket and oil pan gasket on an engine stand. It was a P.I.T.A changing the oil pan gasket like that, and very scary, I jacked it up at the crank with a bottle jack.
What do you think ? , just pull the engine?

what you need to do is put 2x4's between the motor mounts so that you can go under there without the jack being the only way of it staying up.... it's the same thing as getting under a car without any jackstands, just a jack holding it up... very unsafe.
I've taken the oil pan off twice now. Doing the oil pan gasket is much easier than doing the gasket since you dont have to get the oil pan completely off, just down enough to slip the new gasket in. Its not THAT hard if you dont have an engine hoist or engine stand.
If you DO have an engine hoist and stand then DO IT! It is SO much easier to take off the manifolds, all wires, the tranny-engine bolts, motor mount bolts and the throttle cable than it is to jack up the car, put stands there, unbolt the y-pipe, remove the dizzy cap, remove the motor mount bolts, then jack up the engine by the balancer, then put the 2x4's in between the clamshells, then unbolt the oil pan, and monkey it out of the way....
see where I'm going with that? lol.
