86 TPI minimums
I purchased an 86 TPI to install in a 350 roller motor I am building. What are the minimum amount of sensors needed to get optimum performance. I am installing this on a 69 model which has no computer etc. I have the computer and wiring harness, but retrofitting some of the sensors may prove to be challenging.

You have the computer, you have the TPI, you have the harness. That should be all you need, and beleive it or not, it's pretty simple.
Throttle postition
IAC Motor
MAF
temp
egr (
)
8 injectors.....9 on the '86
o2
Intake temp
....That's a quick list with the news on dinner on the stove and after a long day. I might have missed one, but it's really pretty simple. Takes about 10 minutes once the computer and the engine are both in the car. All the connectors fit only where they're intended.
Did that sorta answer the question?

The existing car has none of the correct sensors, or at least I don't think so. Additionally I am exempt from pollution controls due to the year of the car (69). So except for what is required for the TPI to work I don't need egr, O2 or any of those sensors. Can I install the TPI with just the MAF, Temp, Throttle Position. and IAC?

If you don't have emissions to worry about, then you can get rid of egr, and the egr solenoid. Thats not really a sensor though. You can also ditch the air pump. If you do get rid of those, you should get them removed from the chip. Your conversion really isn't very difficult.
You need the 02 sensor. Absolute must.
You need a maf sensor.
Coolant Temperature Sensor
Knock Sensor
Throttle Position Sensor
Idle Air Controller (not really a sensor, but it looks like one)
Intake Air Temp Sensor
Optional...
Fan Switch (looks like a sensor, mounts on passenger head)
02 sensor mounts in the exhaust pipe. Maf in the intake duct, knock sensor in the passenger side of the block (not the head) by the starter. All the other sensors mount on the manifold, plenum, or throttle body. They should already be there with your tpi setup. If they aren't then you have a hole and it will be very obvious that there is a sensor missing.

I'm very impressed. Thank you for your help. I will begin to assemble the motor in the next month or so and I was worried about having to have a speed sensor on the tranny etc. You have made my life much less complicated. I do understand that I will need to increase the fuel pressure AND have a return line back to the tank. Aside from that, I do know of any other reason this shouldn't be too difficult.
Again, thanks for your help and I will let you know how it goes.
