Fuel Pump

How did you guys change your fuel pump. I heard you could lift the carpet and cut a little window out of the floor board and lift the pump out from there. If this is true how do you pull the pump out? Cause I know the lines twist a little in the tank?

I am trying to decide if I should change mine to the in the tank pump. but I don't know if I feel like going through the trouble because I think the best way is to just take out the rear end and pull the gas tank out. sounds like a lot of work to me. but I have never heard of cutting the carpet.

you dont cut the carpet, you pull it up and cut a hole in the metal, the make a flap out of it and seal it up. After that the carpet just layes on top of it and nobody will everknow its there. I have heard of this beeing done and I have already cut th flap for it. I just need to know now how to mess with the fuel lines so you can get the pump out.

Why not do it the right way and drop the tank? It's not really all that much work as compared to hacking a big hole in the floor because the hardlines that run down the side of the tank need to fit through the floor also, making the hole big.

Have you seen anyone do this?

Past Thirdgen:
86 Trans Am w/ built 355TPI with SLP goodies and too much other stuff to List. One sweet *** car, wish I would have had a good enough Job to pay insurance on three cars so I could keep it, but for a 89 Turbo Trans Am w/ Low miles, I think I made the right choice!
