Amsoil By Pass Filter Questions??
Ive been planning on putting a remote dual oil filter setup on my car and after looking around it looks like tehre are 2 out there. The one that summit and everyone else sells which just has a adapter at the stock filter location going to the remote setup which seems pretty straight forward. Then I seen the Amsoil setup, which acording to thier diagram retains the stock filter in the original location. The remote filter looks like it feeds from the top of the engine, not sure exacly where, then after its filtered it returns to the oil pan. Im confident that Amsoil makes a good product and all but IM just not quite sure how this works? Anyone have one, know anything about it??? Any help on this would be great. Thanks.

They have two different set-ups. The one you describe takes a little of the excess oil pump flow - hence the "by-pass" name - and super filters it (one micron nominal). http://www.amsoil.com/bypassfilters/..._dia_300px.gif It typically is tapped from the oil pressure sending port. I've run one on several different vehicles, although I don't have one set up on any right now.
They also have a "dual remote" set-up that is different than the dual filter set-ups you see in Summit et al. All of the pump flow is routed to the remote filters, but the flow through the "by-pass" super fine filter is restricted so that only part of the flow goes through it. http://www.amsoil.com/bypassfilters/..._dia_310px.gif
In both cases, the bulk of the oil flow is filtered through a "normal", "full-flow" filter, and a little bit is given the extra filtration in order to keep the oil cleaner over time. In the case of the dual remote, though, the oil that has been fine filtered is returned to the pressurized lube system, rather than just back to the pan. Both are just as effective with regard to how clean the oil is that gets to your bearings, lifters, rockers, etc.
