antifreeze question.

Do you know if there is any truth to only being able to run certtain antifreeze in a 91 RS 305 tbi? Someone told me the orange freeze I was using is only for new cars. HUH?! I was under the impression that the orange freeze just lasted a couple years longer than the green freeze. To me antifreeze is antifreeze. Thanks in advance.

One or the other, just don't mix them.

The two are not interchangable. The orange stuff (dexcool) will mess up the seals in the waterpump on a car meant for the green stuff, and the green stuff will mess up a dexcool car's stuff.

The dexcool may last longer, but it's got volumes on volumes of technical articles about evaporation problems. (i.e., it dissapears quickly)

I'd stay with the green stuff.

I was just looking at www.prestone.com and their extended life 5/150 antifreeze will work with regular antifreeze. This product is supposed to be the equil to Dexcool, yet it says you can add to regular coolant, and it will work with all metals (I assume this also means all cars).

Doesn't that orange **** like to gum up a lot too......? In my book antifreeze will always be green.

I used the Prestone stuff in my car and it says what R.O.B. was talking about. It will mix with regular antifreeze. I flushed the whole system anyway, just cause it needed it.

I don't see how it could last 5yrs if you mix it with regular stuff though. That's like saying an ugly chic will look pretty if you give her bigger *****. Sorry, but she'd still be ugly. A little better, but still ugly!!! HEHE!!!
