BUILD A TTA 3.8 V6 TURBO

well im very interested into swap my old 2.8 carb from my 82 firebird s/e and i was thinkin of a V8 but ive been hearing so good comments about the turbo 3.8v6 ..what will happen if i put on a turbo 3.8 from a Regal or a Grand national???will it perform like the 89TTA closely...will it be better than a V8 ? it will work with my TH 200C tranny???

well, the V8's wil probably have more performance parts available than the relatively new 3.8's, but aside from that, I only really have one more thing to add since I dont' know if the tranny will work...

My uncle has an old vette with a 350 pullin around 300HP and a new supercharged Regal, and he swears the Regal is quicker off the line, but the vette would beat it hands down on the top end.

I doubt the 2.8 would hold together, and if some chance it did, the tranny would either kiss the floorboard or the asphalt.

The 2.8's weakest point (besides cubes) is the crank. The compression is low enough for forced induction, but I wouldn't thrust the stock parts for too much. As for power, a big turbo on the smaller motor would cause it to spool up later (lag) and really shine going toward the upper end (5,000-5,500) where it would just scatter....

The heads would choke everthing off...

Disregard this post if you were thinking of replacing the 2.8 with the 3.8, I may have mis-understood...

You did say put the turbo "on" did you?

You'd have to loose the carb (reminessant of the 301 turbo firebird 17 second mistake) and go with FI before the above post becomes relevant.

Turbos don't like carbs. Turbos don't like alot of things...

Disregard this if.....

i'm gonna be doing this swap myself in a few months....i looked long and hard the performance u can get out of these engines with minimal mods....i know people that are running high 11's and still getting over 20 MPG(on a stock turbo 3.8 bottom end) nice isn't it? I doubt your tranny will work...don't quote me though....best thing to do is get the entire drivetrain from a GN or T-Type....best thing to do is go to either www.turbobuick.com or www.turbobuicks.com or www.gnttype.org Talk to people over there...they will help u with this project if u are truely serious....

Good luck....let us know what u decide
