Don't think I am stupid guys , I don't know all that much about gears or axles, but I was wondering what the difference was in the spline number.
thanks

It is the number of splines, or teeth, on the axles where they meet up with the gearset. That's as simple as I can put it. The 28s are a little stronger than the 26s. They started putting the 28s into our cars in 1989 but weren't fully phased in until 1990.

The more splines, the larger the axles. Larger axles can take more torque without twisting. The downside is that factory axles are tapered so they are still weak. If you upgrade to 28 spline then buy some aftermarket axles. They don't have the taper and are much stronger. Aftermarket axles will cost around $125 each.
