I have an 88 S-10 I picked up cheap with a blown 2.8 in it, and I'm gonna put a 4.3 in it. How similar are the wiring harnesses? The diagrams we have at work aren't complete enough to be sure. I can pick one up for the 4.3 pretty cheap, but if I don't have to go through all that work...... I'll probably have change it later anyway, because I'm planning to put a 305, or 350 in it. I just need to get it going for now.
TIA

'84 Z28 LG4 305 with 200,000 original miles!
Added dual elec fans.
145 MPH IROC Speedo
Building 430 HP 350 (ZZ430)
using primarily GMPP parts.
Short block sitting on a stand. (Man, those Fast-Burn heads look good, (just sitting there doing nothing!LOL))

I was looking into a v8 swap in my blazer 4x4 but its a big hassle to keep the fuel injected setup. If yours is a 4x4 i dont recomend doing a v8 or a 4.3 swap is a pain.
If you have a non 4x4 than is fairly easy the sensors are the same at least I know the 4.3's are that way. You will need a new computer, throttle body and a transmition.
The wires are fairly simialr sensor wise so there shouldent be to much of a problem, It might just be easyer to put the 8 in now.
The 4.3 could use a better fuel pump but the 2.8 pump should work well, a 350 will need a bigger fuel pump. I would grab some repair manuals at the libray 2.8, 4.3, 5.7 and lay out the engine compartment wiring digrams and compare to be absolutly sure.

Next project, retrofit the primary propultion system from the ufo that didn't crash at Roswell into my camaro.

My buddy just finished his V-8 S-10 swap tonight. After having 2 4.3 4X4 Blazers and changing engines in both, all I can say is if I do it again I will put in a 350. The hardest thing about the 350 swap is the headers actually go around the steering shaft in the 2 wheel drive. In my research I found that you can use stock truck exhaust on the 4X4 models. If your going to go through all that work you might as well just go all the way the first time.

I don't really have the time and $$$ for the V-8 swap right now, and at least with the 4.3 I won't have to get the tranny later. I'm gonna be doing more research this week, and maybe starting on it next week. I have the complete 4.3, ready to drop in. I do have a 350 that I could throw together for it, or I could put the good ole LG4 in it after I swap the engine in my Z.
I did a little research tonight, and I found out that many of the 2.8 and 4.3 engines use the same ECM! The wiring changes are minmal, with most being just colors, and I think the 2.8 has an extra ALDL terminal for the diverter, or canister purge (I forget which!) Looks like I can probably leave things intact, except for maybe a prom update, which I want to do anyway, I want to do my own.
