'89 TPI Unit
Monday I am going to go remove an 89 tpi unit from a wrecked IROC. I was wondering what tools I will need to bring along with me so I don't have any surprises when I am removing it. Also, what other tpi parts will I need to remove from the car to make the swap from tbi to tpi besides the intank fuel pump, ecm, wiring harness, intake manifold, plenum, runners, injectors and throttle cable. Will I need to get the wiring harness that is in the dash as well so that my gauges will work? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

well, I'd take as many tools as you can. Basic tools should get you there really. If you are wanting to disassemble the intake runners and such in the car, make sure and bring a full assortment of torx. all the runner bolts are torx (I believe T30 but it's been a while), the distributor cover is a T20 I believe and the intake itself are T40 I think. the runners have 5 bolts to the intake from the outer side and one from the backside. then they have 4 to the plenum that you can easily see. If the guages are the same as in your car, there should be no difference in how they operate but the sensors could be in a different spot so you may have to extend or loop wires. I would get every relay you can get your hands on while you're there. If you are taking your car to the location, you can use it as a model and see what's different and grab it. I would get ahold of camera and shoot as many photos of stuff as you can. This way you don't have a handful of parts in a week wondering where they came from. I have never performed this swap myself so I don't know exactly what is required but I'm sure there are many people on here that can help. Try reposting with a "Help with TBI to TPI swap" to get the people in here to read what you want becuase your topic doesn't draw the people you are needing.

I have a small list of items that I needed for my carb to TPI swap.
You'll need some of the things I did.
