My new cam vs stock cam??!?!

I think I may have made a mistake in buying my cam. I bought it because it was recommended over the edelbrock cam I was going to purchase. Someone from thirdgen.org boards told me to go with this cam http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=SUM%2DK1103 vs the edelbrock cam. I'm now wondering how this new cam compares to the stock cam in my 85 305 Z28 motor. Is it better or worse? I have 1.92/1.60 valves in the 416 heads (if it helps any to know this).

I was looking in my Chilton book at the cam specs for my motor and it looks better than what I bought, unless it was giving me advertised cam specs.

Also, is there any way to tell if my 305 is a High Output version? It came from an 85 Z28 4bbl.

thanks on any help.

That cam has more duration and lift than any factory 3rd gen cam.

As to it being recommended on TGO, not by any of the cam "gurus" (of which I do not consider myself one). It's basically the same type of cam as the Edelbrocks, but perhaps at a better price. Someone may have said to get it rather than the Ebrock because of that.

As to whether your '85 carb'd 305 was HO or not, most likely not. How much of the engine did you get? If you got the air cleaner, that's the best identifier. Next, exhaust manifold outlet 2-1/4" = L69, 2" = LG4 (not sure on the exact #'s there). After that, knock sensor & electric radiator fan switch - yes = L69, - no = LG4. Lastly is to get a degree wheel and dial indicator on the cam.

The block, pistons, heads, intake, and carb (except for tuning) were all the same between L69 and LG4. Oh, reports are manual tranny versions had lighter flywheels for L69 as well.

i got the motor only (short block), i threw the rest away. It's an LG4, thats stamped right next to 5.0L on the block.
