MSD vs Mallory

Which one is better. I need to get one for my 455 with out points im looking to get a whole new distributor, wires, coil and a ignition box. I have msd on my camaro and have no problems with it but if mallory is better i may go with them.

You mean validly confirmed? Which is better blue or black? That type of question.

In terms of reliability, they seem to have the same proportion of adherents and haters. Personally I use the MSD stuff because when it breaks, so far, MSD has had some pretty good customer service.

Have you looked into the Pertronics stuff?

I heard pertronics was crap. I want the best for this car since it is only going to be used on the track mainly after the enigne is broken in.

By getting an aftermarket distributor, unless you get one that says "mechanical advance", you are getting one that has both forms of advance. On top of that, for best economy and use, both are recommended. Track doesn't matter.

Mechanical advance distributors aren't a good idea on the street. They are meant for the track, and are no fun use on the street at all. Use vacuum advance if you'll be driving it on the street.
