flexplate compatability

i have an 87 350 i'm building and i'm going to have it balanced. i have a big flexplate that came with the engine but I need a small one. i have a small one for an older engine and since i'm going to have it balanced will the old one work?

I would just take it all in to the place thats doing the balancing and ask them. They should know what works and doesnt right?

The one off of the 87 should be for a 1-piece rear seal and have an external weight welded on it near the outside of the flexplate. Older flexplates for 2-piece rear seals have no weight and a different bolt pattern and will not work.

do i realt need a small one? i mean, the body of the starter would be more in the way than the flexplate wouldn't it?

either way i know i'm going to need a mini starter. would it still be in the way?

i'l be using hooker shortie headers if it makes a difference.

The only way to know would be to mock it up with the headers. The starter will sit further out with the larger flexplate. Personally, I would use a small one.
