Gm Hot Cam in a pre87 block?
Gm Hot Cam in a pre87 block?
Has anyone put a GM Hot Cam in a generation 1 SBC. I was thinking of doing a roller conversion and I happened across the Hot Cam from a friend of mine. Has anyone tried this?

It would work, if:
1. you used "retrofit" roller lifters; and
2. you used the factory roller type of timing set; and
3. you made a spacer to simulate the thickness of the factory roller system retainer plate; and
4. you used a traditional cam button.
Seems like an awful lot of trouble to go through, just so you could use an inferior cam. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=273180 After you buy all the expensive stuff, you can buy the cheap part (the cam) from somebody else, that will work a helluvalot better than that little stockish cam ever will.

Thanks for the fast reply. I know I could go to a more agressive cam, but the hot cam should give me a pretty stable idle and still give me some pull. The motor I am thinking of doing this to is a 2 bolt main, so I really don't want to rev the crap out it. I have Perf RPM heads/intake carb and I already have the 1.6 RR. I am wondering how the cam would wake up this setup. Right now I have a XE250H flat tappet cam. Nowhere near enough lift and duration for the capabilities of the heads. This is why I would like to try the roller approch.
