Whats makin this 4.3 smoke like a bitch?????
Whats makin this 4.3 smoke like a bitch?????
My friend has a 91 S-10 w/ a 4.3 that uses a crap load of oil. Here's the deal....it smokes a little bit when you first start it (like it's vavle stem seals) but not when it's under varying RPM's like when you're driving. But if it idles for a few minutes, and you hit the gas, it gives a nice puff of smoke again. whats the deal w/ this, do you think it's rings dying or the vavle stem seals??? his dad thinks it's the seals but i was thinkin rings cause of the smoke it'll give after it's running for a while (like i said, only after it idles...not during regular driving) i guess the best thing to do would be a compression test to rule out the rings...but what do you guys think?????

Compression test is a good plan. Also check the PCV valve. Might be stuck, and just sucking oil out of the motor at idle.
Good luck
Good luck
My car does the same ****, when I hit the track lastime i ran my 14.8 mostique fogging all the way down.
I dunno what it is, Either leaky intake, PCV, extreme valvestem seals, or Bad rings.
Im pretty sure my rings are okay, so I think its the Intake, weeee....

Check the stuff above. Just like to add: With OK compression on the compression test and good power, the oil control rings could still be stuck or broken or worn out. Right off idle and when shifting could be valve guides/seals. I really, really doubt valve seals will fix the problem if it's smoking that much--if it's coming down the valves that much the guides are probably shot as well as the seals.
