pressure waves, scavenging effect

can any one help explain to me how pressure waves work, i wanna learn as much as i can about them and the scavenging effect on the exhasut side,
id relaly also liek to knwo how to make it work for my system on the intake side and exhaust, i guess the length of the intake affects pressure waves, so then u coudl tune it with carb spacers?
or would u start by getting custom cams and hoping that u get the right the one!
iwas todl there is quite a fair amount of power here if u knwo what u are doing and can make it work for ya!
thanks

I know this is not what you want to hear, but it is much more complicated then could ever be explained here.

In general the lengths of the intake runners, effects intake ram tuning. And the length of the header pipes and length of the collector effect exhaust scavenging.

Now that being said the ram tuning effect only works in a narrow rpm band, say less then 1000rpm.

For you to take full advantage of the ram tuning you have to have everyother component maximized for that rpm in which the ramming takes place.

I would start by searching around the internet, because there extensive information on this subject out there.

in a simple nut shell

sound waves when they hit a place that changes diam they like to send an "echo" like wave back to the source
only thing is the "echo" is of the opposite pressure

so like when your exhuast port opens up it sends a high pressure wave out to the tail pipe. when it hits the tail pipe it sends a low pressure pulse back towords the exhuast valve again

if you can get the timing right so the low pressure wave hits the exhuat valve right as it is opening it will help to suck the exhuast out

something about high pressure likes to move to a low pressure zone and the greater the difference the faster they try to equalize
