Machine shop work

excuse my failure to search, but nothing was turning out very good results. What would it cost to get my vortecs modified to accept .550" lift with screw-in studs? Also, where would I look in the yellow pages to find a machine shop qualified to do this?

Looking for some serious fun with a 350

any one with a mill could do it, or even the DIY tools in a few hours, so 2x their labor rate plus you'd need spring pockets opened up. my shop charges 2$ a spring. i mill my own heads guides or stud bosses.

As ede said any machine shop with a mill could do it.
But you should go visit a few shops and just ask if they can machine a set of SBC heads for screw in studs and guide plates. And if the quickly quote a price for you without having to look at the heads or ask a bunch of questions, then that means they're familiar with the process.
If you go to a shop and the guy says, "bring em in and let me look at em" and then he scratches his head and says " "okay so you want some holes tapped where?"
Then that's the wrong shop.
It's a straightforward process that any machine shop that does head work should be familiar with.
I'm not sure if you'll want guide plates or not.
But if you get them make sure you use the right rockers etc.
