Voltmeter. What reading normal, key on ?
Voltmeter. What reading normal, key on ?
Meaning, when I have trhe ignition on, but car not started, what should be the reading on the voltmeter for a healthy battery? When I do this in my GTA, it reads only 9 to 10 volts. I put in my other battery from my daily friver and it had just 10 volts. Are both these batteries getting low ? Should the voltage read 12 for a healthy battery ?
Thanks

Check the voltage at the battery w/ a real voltmeter, dash guages are notoriously inaccurate. If either of those batteries can start a car they have better than 12V, not 9 or 10.
I know a healthy battery will have some change over 12V at rest. If it is near/below 12V it is probably dead. At least thats been my experience. With the car running you should see 13.8V+.
