AC causing high idle

I know that running the ac causes the car to pick up idle a bit to run the compressor, but as soon as I hooked my ac back up, I had problems. This is one of the reasons I disconnected it before. My car idles around 750RPM. AC running, around 1000 or 1100, but after I drive for a bit, even after turning everything off, my idle jumps to about 1750, which is around the cold idle speed. Why? I found that unplugging the green wire attached to the ac will stop the problem, but now that I have everything running again, I can't do that. Help???

Is this a carb? If so, the solenoid is adjustable. The hex on it is there so you can screw the plunger in or out. Just adjust it until the idle is about the same with the air on as with it off.
