wire hookup on 91 alt. HELP!!!

wire hookup on 91 alt. HELP!!!
where do i need to hook up the tan with white stripe wire. its off a 91z. when i hook it up to what i think it needs to be it whines and runs rough. in my manual it looks like 12v goes to it.
