radiator cap question
radiator cap question
ok theres my problem........i havea griffin dual1" core all-aluminum rad and i have a "new"16lb cap for it when ifirst put the rad and cap in it ran hot...then i put 2 pinhole in the rad tank......AND IT RAN COOLER?!!wtf? so thinking the holes were letting off pressure and keeping the car coller i was in a pickle wheter to get a coller(lighter lb cap) or heavier lb cap so i bought a 13lb andn it cools ....well better but, still gets hot in dead idle circumstances? what damn lb cap do these rad's need?????should i go yet coller or heavoer? 16lb was stock for my car.oh yeah im rnnning dual fans(electric)1 14" and 1 12"
fan. heres another interesting fact no matter the mix of antifreeze to water i try the rad wont cool with anything BUT, pure water?why??
thanks!

The higher the pressure in the system, the higher you raise the boiling point so it should therefore cool better
The only drawback to high pressure is blowing hoses out and finding mushy soft-plugs.
I'm running the griffen w/o any overheating probs. I'd look into the thermostat or water pump. Another thing that happens frequently is the bottom hose gets sucked shut, restricting the flow.
Is your motor in tune? Not running rich/lean?
