What is causing the Bogging at WOT?
What is causing the Bogging at WOT?
I'm lost.. I figured I'd try here first to see if anyone had suggestions on what my problem may be..
I just had my 305 rebuilt, new cam, flat top pistons, all that good stuff.. I have a new performer intake & performer #1406 electric choke 600cfm carb (both new)..
To go with this, is a completely new ignition system.. MSD 6A control box, MSD blaster2 coil, MSD distributor, new Taylor wires & plugs..
After getting my car back, I took it easy for the first couple hundred miles to break in the new engine rebuild.. When I finally floored it at a stop light it bogged down at WOT.. Once it got going it was fine, but everytime I go WOT it boggs..
I thought it might have been my cat, which after I checked it was clogged a bit.. The cat problem is now taken care of, but I still have the Bogg at WOT..
Any ideas? As far as exhaust goes I have the 80 series flowmaster, NO headers..
Thanks

Sounds like you need some carb tuning.
That carb uses one of the crudest systems imaginable for controlling the secondaries. It has an air valve somewhat like a Q-Jet, but instead of an adjustable spring to control the air valve opening, it uses a weight. Unfortunately it sounds like your carb needs a slightly larger weight. I don't know if it's possible to change that in the Edelbrock version of it.
Get one of the tuning kits for it and try some slightly richer secondary jets. If it improves the bog, at least you'll know you're on the right track.
