Improved AC performance

A few days ago, my system was professionally retrofitted to R 134a, a new dryer and compressor installed as well as of one of those new variable oriffice valve thingies. However in 100 degree weather the performance was still lacking, especially crawling through traffic or sitting at a stop light.

So I took a friend's advice and bought a 14 inch FlowCool fan from my local parts store. I installed it in fron of the AC condenser right above the air dam. It's held in by the bracing that's already in front of the radiator. I installed it as a pusher of course. All I have to say is... WOW! The AC is ICE COLD even at stop lights. If I hold my hand in front of the vents for 10-15 seconds it starts to hurt! lol

I guess what I'm trying to say here, is that if anyone is not satisfied with their 134a conversion... install one of these fans in front of your AC condensor. It will make your AC A LOT colder, and will keep your engine cooler at the same time. It was the best $70 bucks I spent for my car

How did you rig the fan to come on? Did you wire it in with the fan that kicks on when you turn the a/c on? I have a pretty large tranny cooler in front and don't know if I could fit a fan in front. I may drop to a smaller tranny cooler since the one I have is HUGE! I just did the R134 conversion and it's not bad but down here in the Florida Keys I think the system will be taxed.

How in the heck did you get that fan in there? I tried on my 92 R/S and couldn't do it. 2 1/4" fan depth.

Well.. you have to remove the front latch mechanism. Then it slid right in. I put the mechanism assmebly back on and THAT's what's holding it tight agains the A/C condenser. The fan is pretty thin, I dont think it's even an inch thick. Maybe that's why it was expensive. It was welll worth it though

Hey Synergy, how about a tech article on the installation?
