A/c is sparatic....need opinions what to check..
I turn the AC on and it won't come on right away, but when it does, it will stay on for a bit, then die. Then come back on. That black vacuum ball below the battery had a busted hose that I fixed, but it didn't help anything. I was told that ball holds vacuum for the Hvac and Cruise control.
Any help would.....help.
Thanks.

The vacuum resevoir is only for the doors in the ducts inside the car, doesn't affect operation of the a/c.
How long does the a/c stay on? Does it get cold at all?
Just guessing..could be low on refrigerant. Pressure switch could be bad.

Well, to be honest, after I fixed the hose, it stays on much longer than it used to before I fixed it. So that's why I thought it might be a vacuum issue. Is there another vacuum hose from that black vacuum ball thing on the underside? It feels like there's still a broken or disconnected hose, that once fixed, the a/c will work fully.
The ac stayed on almost 20 minutes today before it died. Before it would stay on 10-20 seconds then die. But like I said, it stays on much longer after I fixed that hose.
The A/C does get cold. And all the levels work, and so do the door flaps.
Where is the pressure switch?

There are both high and low pressure side switches. Either one can cause the A/C compressor to disengage. Chances are something's outta whack with the system, causing one of the switches to open and shutting off the compressor until it settles down again. Then it'll turn back on again.
It MIGHT be a problem with the amount of refrigerant in the system but that usually is pretty obvious- rapid on/off cycling of the compressor.
Chances are it's elsewhere. If you need to replace a high/low side switch it'll vent the refrigerant to the atmospere anyway as soon as you unscrew it. I'd take it to a shop unless you're set up to do A/C work.

Well today it was extremely bad. On/off/on/off...literally like that. It was acting wierd today. I'm thinking that because of the rain, maybe there is a bad connector or exposed wire that was getting shorted out by the rain splashing.
