coils????????????

I am going to get a new coil to go along with new plug wires and some other stuff I am going to order. I have an '87 Iroc with coil away from the cap. What are my options for aftermarket coils that would work with my car. I know of the accel super coil and msd coil (pn 8226) that looks like the factory coil and mounts in the same place. I am leaning towards accel or msd but do I have any other choice of coils by those two brands? I have heard of the msd blaster ss and blaster 2. Are they direct replacements for my stock coil? Do even they work on my car or are they designed for different systems than mine? What would be the best of those four to get?

the more I think of it should I even get a better coil? I know they dont increase horsepower but from what i understand they do give better throttle response, and I need better response because mine sucks. But should I get the coil for that reason? And which one of those four??

I would replace it if yours is original or old. Its a cheap replacement and very easy too. You are correct in thinking you will not see any real perfomance gains, I mean you might on a dyno run but probably not as far as 1/4 times. What you may gain though, is throttle response and ease of starting both cold and hot. I have had much success with both MSD and Accel products. I think both of them make an excellent direct replacement coil for your application. Definately a good idea when upgrading your cap, rotor, wires, plugs too.

I just remembered that I had the coil replaced like 4 years ago. Is it Still worth the switch to an aftermarket one????????????

And Out of those 4 coils I mentioned above in my original question Which is best and do they all fit my car???????????????? I know the one (pn# 8226) is a direct fit at the stock location But I wouldn't care if i bought one of those other ones if I had to mount it somewhere else that wouldnt be a problem. What I do care about though is if my stock wires will plug directley into any of those coils. If so which ones?????????? And which is best?????

Any of those should hook up to your stock connections just fine, you might have to modify the ground lead but I doubt it. The higher the voltage rating the better... but you don't certainly don't need the best for your application.

HyperTech makes a super cap/coil/rotor for my 86 305TPI which puts out more zap than most and is a direct replacement. Check with Summit:

http://www.summitracing.com/

to see if they make an application for yours or go to the hypertech website for some info.
