Is my fuel pressure normal
Is my fuel pressure normal
To start, I know the check ball in the pump is gone. It wont hold back pressure for more than 2 seconds, no joke. I've doubled checked, and the injectors and regulator hold pressure great, so I'm safe there. I just want to make sure I'm not hurting anything right now.
My pressure is 32psi with key on, or with engine idleing. With vacuum disconnected, it goes to 40psi. Hooked up the gauge, and while driving, it will vary between 32-40psi, depending where my foot is on the pedal. WOT, I get 41psi, all the way until 4600 rpm shift (of which power is gone after 4200).
Does this sound ok? Like I said, I know the pump needs replaced, I just want to know if I REALLY need to replace it NOW, or if I can wait.

Your pressure is a bit low. It should hold about 37 PSIG at idle with vacuum, but that sounds like more of a problem with the regulator than the pump. Since the pump will produce at least 41 PSIG, the output pressure should be adequate. The regulator is suspect, and may actually be why the pressure drops almost immediately on shut down.
If the conditions remain the way they are, you should be able to drive it indefinietely. I'd suggest a bit more diagnosis of the regulator, however.
