ok its an 89 t/a 5.0 tpi man... got off work car started ran fine drove about half a block stopped shut it off went into beer store came back out a few mins later had a crank no start issue... checked for fuel pressure that was ok noticed the tach was staying at zero while cranking... checked for spark found no spark... condition of plugs: ok... figured possible ignition module... might as well do cap and rotor at the same time... replace the ignition module, cap and rotor... while I was doing this I found a lot of green corrosion on the wires from the pick up coil to the module... also the pik up coil assembly looks pretty rusty but no obvious damage to it... the conector to the ignition module fell apart while disconnecting it so I used heat shrink on the terminals... after getting it back together it started but runs like crap... it seems to misfire and back fire very noticably and is in no condition to drive much less take to the track in the morning... the bearings in the distributor see to be ok no excessive movement or anything... my next attempt will be the pick up coil and now the plugs which are now black after running w/ the misfire... after this long *** discription if any one was any idea what I screwed up please let me know...

thanx in advance, zroc

ps does and one have a wiring diagram for the electronics under the hood???

Is it possible that you got the timing off at some point when you were doing this? If the engine will run at least, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and check timing just to rule that out.

I made sure the firing order was right (thats the first thing I did)... didn't take the distributor collar loose (I was going to pull the distributor last night but the bolt is siezed and it was getting late) so base timing should be ok... I put it on tdc on #1 and verified the rotor was pointing at the #1 position on the cap... when its running it does sound like it has a couple wires crossed but I traced the wires three time and they are all correct...
