How hard is it to...

Change the coil springs in a 92 RS
change the shocks,
change the valve covers,
and change the exhaust manifolds to headers all of this done by a novice.

Any idea on the time it will take and also which shocks are the best? Bilstein, edelbrock, Koni etc..

I would say that changing the headers will take you a good 6 hours alone.

1. ?? Probably pretty difficult
2. ?? About as difficult as #1
3. Pretty easy, you shouldn't have any problems with this one.
4. It's not real hard to do, it is just quite time consuming. You've gosta move all kindsa stuff outta the way to get at all the exhaust bolts. I'd guesstimate more than 6 hours...

I will try to answer this in the order you posted the questions. Since you are talking about being a novice on working on the car, I suggest you get a good manual such as Chiltons and take your time.
1. Changing the rear shocks and springs are easy. Should take you about 4 hours. Best to do one side at a time. If you plan to replace the front springs, I suggest you take it to the professionals.
2. 1 hour on the valve covers. Make sure you replace the gasket.
3. Putting in a set of headers will probably take you a weekend to assemble. I can not really go into detail since you have not stated what type of headers you have. I installed the slp headers with the installation kit and took 2 days to accomplish.
4. I use Monroe struts and shocks.

Well the headers I am going to end up with now are Hooker Competition ones with 1 5/8 tubes and 3" collectors.

I do have a chiltons manual to help me and the back ones don't look difficult. The front ones do look a lot more complicated, I would like to do the fronts myself, but I don't want to do something over my head and end up in real trouble.
