should my engine die if...

I push down the lever on my tps sensor without pushing opening my throttle body ?

87 IROC Z, L98 350 TPI..etc..

Better yet, when I actually disconnect my TPS sensor, should the car die ?

The reason I ask is because I vaguely remember that these actions were common of TPS sensors, and currently, I could disconnect my TPS sensor with the motor running and it does not flinch. Nor does it flinch when I push its lever down without opening the throttle body. All indications would indicate that the TPS sensor was bad. I know they are deathly expensive, but is their a way to test it ?

Someone might have better advice, but I just replaced my TPS, so....

When my TPS failed, it was sending a 2.6V signal to the computer while at an idle. The idle was high, rich and fluctuated in RPM. If I unplugged the TPS, the engine didnt' seem to run much different at all. Are you getting a Service Engine light? I'd just take it to a friend or to a shop for a diagnostics scan... And as far as TPS prices go, an 87 TPI should be about $120CAD... That's not too bad is it?

are we talking about the same part? I've replaced the TPS sensor before and it was only about $30 bux I think. It was even an adjustable TPS sensor. My car does not react to it being plugged or unplugged anymore. It did at one time prior to all of my modifications. I guess that would be a good indicator that its dead.
