Popping Sounds in Engine!

Hello, yeah it's me again. I'm still having trouble with my car.

This time my engine is making popping sounds when I drive. At first I thought that the idle wasn't adjusted correctly. I adjusted it and took it out for a spin. Everything was fine until I accelerated up to about 70mph. As soon as I decelerated and accelerated again that’s when the popping sounds happened again. It felt like I was losing power and could hardly accelerate at all. To make matters worse my car stalled and I barely managed to start it up again and make home.

From there, I took out my sparkplugs and there were filthy! Black, covered in carbons. I cleaned them, gapped them and re-inserted them correctly. I checked the carburetor for leaks and adjusted the float level. Everything was correct. I started the car up and it was running well, until I punched it up to 70 again.

I took off the valve covers and looked at the valves and springs. With the help of Stephen 87 IROC, Aperion, and ede. I managed to check the springs and valves but they were fine as well and did not require any additional adjustments. So that leaves me back at square one.

Could it be the carburetor itself that is need of cleaning or replacement? What is making that popping sound every time I accelerate? Could it be some other part that needs to be cleaned or replaced? As usual if anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate the help.

My information about the car is:

1982 Pontiac Trans Am
V8 305ci (5.0l)
Automatic Transmission

Thank you,

the bandit_knight81

popping when you let off the gas? this is an easy one...
you're either running lean, or your timing is off, or you have an exhaust leak.
I had this happen when I installed headers and I went through hell finding out the problem.

it's simple.
