wacky fan issue

wacky fan issue

I have a problem with the cooling fan. it works with the AC and 'occasionally' works on it's own..
Any ideas? Its' really flipping me out and I have a trip to go on. HELP!

Transmission: 700R-4 when it works

I had the same problem a few years ago.
i believe it was the fan switch, located in the passenger side head.

On the passenger side head under the exh manifold there is a little round objets with wires going into it its a temprature controlled swich that turns the fan on when the temprature is above a certan level.
