A regualr filter is fine. It's not going to deteriorate or anthing bad like that. The K&N filters are supposed to flow better and trap more dirt just like thier air filters. Suposedly the synthetic element filters do the same thing.

Right, any good-quality filter will work fine. Stay away from Fram; it's been over 40 years since they last did anything to earn their reputation as a "performance" part, and they've done nothing but rest on their laurels for all these decades. Their product is mass-produced, mass-market, zero research, cheap, buy-it-by-the-pound garbage nowadays. And there's a downside to it too.

I always use the Mobil 1 filter. Also, you may want to try sticking a medium sized magnet on the bottom of your oil pan. Its cheap insurance.
