looking over some receipts i got with my car when i bought it and i found one for a camshaft, it has a part number of FED CS711, can anyone identify this camshaft and maybe give me some specs on it? i appreciate any help on this one...

Find somebody that sells Federal-Mogul parts, and look it up in their catalog. Speed-Pro is another brand name that it might be marketed under. Their web site unfortunately doesn't include a catalog.
It's probably a stock replacement cam of some kind. Of course, "stock replacement" covers alot of ground; from the peanut LG4 cam, to the Duntov solid-lifter road-racing cam, and alot in between.

Its a federal mogul cam alright... the number sounds familiar to me, I am pretty sure its the peanut cam. IIRC the HO cam is CS766.
Ill see if I have a book, but I dont think I do.
Nope, no book... but I am about 90% sure thats a peanut cam.

i read somewhere on here that the 85 lb9 didn't get the peanut cam from the factory, wonder why they would put one in as a replacement? i'm not sure what this thing is so does anyone have any recommendations for a cam replacement? i need something not too far over stock but better than this peanut cam if that is what it is? i want smooth idle, great acceleration and top end, not asking too much am i?

What you should do is call around to the parts stores in your area; find one that's a F-M dealer, and has the paper catalog for camshafts; and just go look it up. It might be OK, or it might be the peanut, go find out. Anybody here would have to do the same thing since F-M's web site is so useless, nothing but a big self-abuse session, so you'll have to do the legwork yourself if nobody here will do it for you.
So what kind of a motor and car do you have? That would be helpful info to start with on recommending a cam.

yea, i probably need to do some leg work since that part number doesn't ring any bells, but it doesn't hurt to ask!
