Idle setting and ECU
Idle setting and ECU
ok i have some questions. I have a small problem with my car. Every so often, when I am idleing at a stop light or sometimes when I ****ft into reverse, my car stalls. I checked my idle when I was in drive at a red, my idle looked to be at 600rpm. I was wondering of that was too low and if it is how to fix this. Also I wanted to know where the port is for my cars computer. I have a 91 firebird. if anyone can help it will be great.
The idle RPM is about right for an automatic trans TPI. The idle air control should be able to maintain that idle RPM regardless of the gear you are in or how long it idles. You might start by cleaning the IAC and its air passages. That alone could solve the problem. If not, you may have to remove, disassemble, and clean the IAC valve.
As for the ALDL (the port), it should be located at the lower edge of the dash panel, to the right of the steering wheel, and just above the driver's footwell:

There should be a plastic cap snapped in place over the connector - At least, there was one when it left the factory. You can simply pull it off and snap it back in place when finished.
