Vortec Cast Iron heads on a 87 305??

I am seriously considering getting the Vortec heads that are 219.99 in jegs for my motor, will they work?? Do i need to have them machined for valve clearance? Also, will my manifold bolt up? Thanks for any help!

TTT, I don't think this will work with your manifold.

Nope! If they did I would have used my ported Vortec heads already. The bolt pattern and angle is different. EGR routing is completely different. You can modify them to fit a stock intake. Although this requires drilling and tapping new holes the the head for your intake and disabling EGR in the prom. Keep an eye under the VORTEC thread under TPI, I'm looking into that myself...

I've heard those heads are supposed to make huge torque on a TPI, but haven't found out for myself. SD is supposed to release a Vortec TPI manifold, but we've been waiting for a year listening to excuses. I do know they are now being tested, so they do exist. I'm about to sell my Vortec's and go buy some 'Vette heads. Not a bad 'bang for the buck' head, though. Pretty good for a GM truck head.
