tick,tick,tick sometimes on acceleration
I have been getting a ticking sound sometimes lately on acceleration. I tought it might be bad gas or something. I also need to change my valve guides to eliminate the puff of blue smoke. If my car is idle it doesn't tick, only for a few seconds on quick accelerations. It reminds me of the same ticking you would hear if your car was going to overheat or something. Any ideas.

only on acceleration?
only when you foot is hard planted on the gas? back off your timing, sounds like you're pinging..
your timing should be around 6 BTDC with the EST disconnected

Exhaust leak at the head? Tried tightening the manifold bolts?

Unless your car has a ton of miles on it then don't replace the valve guides. If the valves rattle in the guides then replace them. Otherwise, it's the seals that need to be replaced. You need o-rings, positive rubber seals with wire locks, and plastic pieces that go over the seals(on exhaust). Your engine is starting to run lean. Back off the timing and change your fuel filter. Check the plugs to see just how bad it is.
