HP Estimate? LG4 1/4 mile times?
I'm trying to find a good place to dyno my car around here, before I start doing anything major to it. But since I'm having a little bit of trouble, I thought I'd post here.
I have a 87 Z with the LG4. It has Hedman Headers (Medium tube I believe), new Y-Pipe, Dynomax exhaust, no cat(s) and a K & N Open Air Filter. The engine has 159000KM (Almost 100K Miles?) and runs perfect. Any HP estimates? 1/4 mile estimates? What kind of cars SHOULD I be able to beat?
Also, what times are other LG4's running? What mods?
Thanks guys

Trevor,
Does your LG4 have the smog gear on it? Mine doesn't and I think this is kind of typical of the Canadian Camaros. If it doesn't, it should have a few more horsepower than the equivelent American LG4, say 160hp instead of 140hp.
Have you tuned up your carb and ignition, as per the instructions from Damon in the Tech section of this site? If so, you will have an even beefier LG4 with perhaps another 10 or 15hp.
Now you might have 170-175hp. Adding in the advantage your headers provide, I wouldn't be surprised if you are storming around with 200hp on tap.
1/4 mile times might be close to 16 seconds, but I wouldn't want to venture much more of a guess than that.

Rockford Fosgate 6x9 Punch rear speakers
Aluminum slots and Goodyear 225x60R15 Eagle HP tires

That is what I would expect out of your engine with the mods that you've listed. I had done the same thing to my car before the engine swap and that is what it ran at Indianapolis. Gears will really change you 1/4 times.
Most of the same year mustangs will run low 15s or mid 15s because the 5 speed that most of them run have bigger rear gears, and their cars are smaller.
Most Hondas and such should run right with you. Any turbo cars will kill you unless the driver has no idea what is going on.
I recomend learning how to drive really well.

Trevor, your car I would estimate 180hp with stock intake and stock cam. change these items and it could be well into the low 200's. 1/4 estimates are hard to give, it varys with altitude where I am 3800+ft with a 210hp lg4 I ran 15.2@89mph. thats with no smog crap "no cat either" tricked qjet comp270H cam and some sort of performance muffler thats now gone.

Yup, I'd guess somewhere around 200hp with just his minimal changes. Camaros are so light they will still be right quick through the quarter at that power.

Thanks for the estimates guys. Right now, I think I'll focus on learning how to drive the car, since it's my first RWD.
What kind of gains could I expect from just swapping the intake manifold? And what's with all the different models?

If you're looking for a dyno shop, you could try Engine Xchange House in Edmonton, 468-2585. I think they used to have a chassis dyno when I lived in Edmonton a few years ago. If not, Davenport Racing in Calgary has a chassis dyno, 403-274-7271.

I just G-tech'd my car last night and got 16.1@87mph with 166rwhp. That's with an extra 600lbs between the 3 of us in there and no real 'pre-test mods' I should be able to easily get it into the high 15's with a few tweaks.
