How to change vavle springs?

i just won a set of 416 heads off of ebay for $30.00. I am going to try to put new vavle springs and maybe new valves in but ive never done it before, is this hard to do? Can some one tell me how? Also what kind of springs should i use?

You need a valve spring compressor. Use whatever springs your cam manufactutor recommends.

and replace the seals while you're doing it. look in your manual and you ought to find a pic or two. after you're done give the valve tip a good smack with a brass or soft hammer to make sure everything is seated.

I'd also recommend getting a valve spring height micrometer to measure the installed height and add the necessary shims as needed.

No, it is actually pretty easy if you have a good spring compressor. This is the one I have...it is a little time consuming having to thread it onto each stud, but overall works well.

Also the spring height micrometer is a good idea. I had to add something like .105" (.060 + .030 + .015) to mine to get the proper install height with my COMP springs on my 416's. I got the shims from Competition Products.
