Run out of gas

91rs v6

Hey my son run out of gas and car won't start. Fuel pump works ok ( added gas) went ahead and changed fuel filter also nothing .Just trying to do it my self before i send it to the shop.

also, you may hear the fuel pump turn on, but that doesnt mean it's working like it should. Check the fuel pump fuse (doubt it is bad since you hear it).

But you see, the fuel pump uses the gas in the fuel tank to cool itself down. After 1/4 a tank then the fuel pump gets hotter and hotter because theirs less and less fuel to keep it cool. If you run out of gas, then the fuel pump can burn up (not literally, lol that would be a big boom), so you'd need a new fuel pump.

If the fuel filter (which is very possible because often times the crud in a fuel tank gets sucked up last) doesnt fix it. Get a fuel pressure gauge, and test the fuel pressure at the Schrader Valve (assuming it's MPFI).
