Please help

I have a 1987 Camaro with a 383 Mini Ram motor with an MSD 6 AL. It has a 58MM throttle body on it and a cam rated at 2500 to 6000 RPM. I replaced the fuel pump, distributor, plugs, wires, custom computer chip, coil, 30# injectors, stock MAF(also tired a modified stock MAF) and a high flow fuel filter. I don't know what the heck the problem is but it's driving me nuts. I can rev the car fine when there is no load but when I'm test driving it. The car seems like it starts to hit a rev limiter at about 3500 PRM. It will go up to 4500 RPM and that's it. I even replaced the fuel line from the tank forward because it had a kink in it. Timing was triple checked and motor is tight including rockers and head bolts. I just don't know what to do with this thing. It's driving me nuts. I hook it up to my auto Xray and all the readings seem fine and no troble codes.

Does it have a converter(s) on it? I had a 83 firebird with a 350 TPI motor and it did the same thing your describing, scratched my head for a few days then decided to take it to a muffler shop to have it checked. They pulled the cat and sure enough it was melted inside. They said a new one was 275.00 so I said to leave it off and I'll go home and see if I had enough cash...got home and promptly gutted it with my trusty screwdriver, put it on and everything was fine. It's worth a try.

I'll check the cat out but the cat is pretty new. It's a high flow catco cat. But that's a good idea. One quick question though. Do you think at idle it would be not really loud but loud? It sounds like a worked car but not like it's forcing air though the cat.

On mine the idle sounded the same since it was able to flow enough air for an idle speed and light throttle too, but as soon as I got anything more than 1/3rd throttle it fell on it's face. I couldn't even get on a highway unless I featherfooted it to speed.

Just cause the cat is fairly new, don't discount it...I just had a customer with one that was 3 months old and it came apart and plugged the muffler.

Same symptoms.

Should I be able to see through the cat since it's a high flow car? Thanks.

Took the cat off and it looks fine to me. What else should I check?

What kind of PROM are you running? What are your BLM's? Whats your total timing? Is it pinging when it falls on its face, does it feel like knock retard?

I didn't do the chip. So I'm not sure about anything there. I can't tell if it's pining but at 3500 it seems like it's hitting a rev limiter. But it will go up higher to almost 4500 but then it totally dies. The guy that did the chip said it's probably a module but it's new in the distributor I got. He also told me to look at the o2 sensor's voltage and that hits abour 800 milivolts which the he said was good. So I figure it's not a fuel pump by that. But it's really confusing me.

Ok today I re wired the ingintion box into the system again. The funny thing is first run around the block. I went up one street and stopped at a red light. Before the light the car basically ran fine. It sputtered once for a sec above 4000 RPM but it would go all the way to my set redline. So now what do I check. I had two different coils on it. A MSD Blaster 2 and a Holly Lazershot. Ran fine with both on the first street or I guess till it heated up a little. What do you guys think? Thanks.
