HOW DO I GET OIL SENDING UNIT OUT HELLP!!!!

I bought a socket for s/u 1/16 & 1 extra deep but could not get it on becouse unit is to close to frame/body. then I went and got a 1 1/16 combo wrench but the body of the s/u in the car is larger than the box end of wrench. Cannot get to it from the top and cant get open end on from below. Is the oem unit a diferent size nut than the replacement? and will i have to lift the car to do this. help! its sunday and this is my daily driver I want to avoid damage to motor. any one know if you can rent a test unit (mechanical)from discount aouto parts or aouto zone. thanks.

If you can get a set of pliers/visegrips on it, it should come right out.

They aren't very tight usually.
