Cylinder head rebuild

I bought a set of old 454 oval port heads.

They have 2.06/1.72 valves and 113cc chambers.

They don't need new valves but I'm going to replace them with some Manley Street Flo valves anyway. My question is what will it cost to have 2.19/1.88 valves put in along with a port and polish to get them flowing nicely again. I'm not talking about any complex CNC machining, just cleaning them up.

look in the yellow pages for machine shops in your area and call and ask the rates, since there is a big differance in differant parts of the country. as far as i can tell around here is about the cheapest i've saw posted but don't recall the price for what you want. the porting if you want something fast and sloppy to just clean up the ports and match the gasket i'd say you're looking at 4 to 5 hours labor.

Watch out, you can easily end up with $500 into those heads. Heck, I dont think you will even get them out of the shop for less than $200, if you have them set up the valves for you.

If you have them do any porting, figure a minimum of $250 will be added to the bill. I did a set of 305 heads (mostly for the learning process) and ended up spending $460 plus 25 hours of my own grinding time. Sure, they flow well now, but I could have done the same thing with off the shelf WP castings.

There is a race shop locally that tells me that they spend up to 40 hours of labor on a custom port & polish job for competition engines. That's including the use of a superflow flowbench though. It can add up fast.
