rebuilt motor qustion please help
well i rebuilt my motor and finaly got the timing on for the most part and adjusted the valves correct but i still hear a "tin can" sound coming from the botom end which sounds like its coming from the timing cover, i no its not the valves, im prety sure its the crapy chrome cover i put on there and the chain is hiting it posibly? im wondering is it posible to take the timing cover off and put a diffrent one on with the motor still in the car?

if u can try and touch the timing cover to feel the vibration, or u could use a stethascope to listen to it, then u can make sure its in the timing cover, i had a simaler prblm with my car, thought it was the cheap timing cover and then took it all apart and replaced it but it was still there, it ended up being the conecting barely hittin the windage tray in the front of the oil pan.

well when i found out it was in the oil pan we just left the motor in and un bolted the pan. it droped far enough to get a small flash light in and a mirror to see inside, but to get the pan all the way off we just unbolted the motor mounts and used a hoist to lift the motor and trans as far as we could lift it, it lifted just enough to get the pan on and off. but to get to the timing cover u just have to unbolt all the belt pullys and water pump to get to it.
