Symptoms of a bent intake valve.....

Hey guys, how would a motor run if it had 1 or 2 bent intake valves?? I couldn't figure out why the engine was running so choppy at idle and throughout the RPM range. I told a guy at work about my fuel problem(when you initally crank over the engine, atomized fuel shoots up and out of the carb until it starts. Once it starts it doesn't happen.) and he says that it sounded like an intake valve was lashed too tight and allowing the compression to blow the fuel back out of the intake. I can see this happening, and remebered back to my inexperienced days many years ago when I first started to build this engine. The book that I had was showing the (supposed) *proper* way to set the lash on hydraulic lifters. The procedure was to twist the pushrod back and forth while you are tightening the rocker arm nut. Once the pushrod can't be tuned any more, turn the rocker arm nut 1/4 turn and it was set. I know realize that this is for lifters that have already been pumped up. Anyway, at that time, after setting the lash with that *procedure* I attempted to turn the crank over to set the remaining valve lashes. I got to a point and the crank kinda stopped. I thought to myself, well I haven't done anything to the motor in months, not even spun it over. I figured that one of the pistons hit a surface rust spot in the cylinder so I sprayed some WD40 in each spark plug hole and kept turning it. After it broke free, I continued in my lash setting, one more time I had bind. Since I hadn't made 1 full crank revolution since the last bind I figured that it was another rust spot. Needless to say, It binded a third time so I took everything back out and was rewarded with 2 bent pushrods. At this point in time, I'm thinking that all the problems that I am having now are probably because I am a dumbass and bent some intake valves. The motor doesn't make any clacking or clunking noises that I can hear. So what do you think, would the problems I have might be cause by a bent intake valve? Thanks for any help/suggestions on this matter, Paul Moore

if it's bent it isn't going to get better after you start the engine
