Comp XE268 Driveability....?
Comp XE268 Driveability....?
Ok so here's my build going in this August..
350 4-bolt bored .030" over.
Mildly ported 882 heads. (ssshh, I know.)
Performer RPM Qjet.
Stock non-CC (yay canada) Qjet, tweaked rods n hangers.
Flattop pistons.
Comp Cams XE268.
Edelbrock TES headers, 3" catback, cheap-O flo-pro muffler.
3.73 *OPEN* yes, OPEN rear-end. (ewwww traction, next to go).
Non WC T-5 Transmission. (say yer prayers)
Too much spent on suspension.
This is a daily driven car, 10 months of the year.
Now, my question is, is the XE268 too much for a daily driver, factoring in the constrictive heads? I like a little rump-rump, but I have a feeling these 882 heads are never going to see the benefits of the 268 over the XE262 variety. But I was thinking, if the heads pissed me off enough I would go to Vortecs, which work well with the 268, and I really, really, don't wanna pull this engine out again.
For what it's worth, this car will most likely never see the track, but is seeing ALL TOO MUCH of a mid-late nineties Honda Prelude's tailights even with a respectable 305 build, much to the tune of Daniel B's. Time to play hardball.
Later,
Hype.

I have the XE268 with vortec heads. It is not my daily driver, though. I use 1.6 Proform roller rockers and the whole cam and spring kit. My compression is about 10.9:1. As for gears I am using the 3.73's with an Auburn Posi. Also, 3,000 stall and a 700r4 tranny.
Now to answer your question. It depends on what you can live with. If you get the XE268 I think that you should go ahead and get a set of vortecs and a posi. You'll need it. I think that you'll like this setup with a T5. Make sure to get a posi and sticky tires. This cam is pretty lumpy and sounds really good through headers and flowmaster mufflers. If you do this you won't see those stupid import taillights. Good luck.
