A..I.R pump removal?

I have read the tech article on this subject, and searched this message board. However there is no clear description of how to do this. Looking at mine I see the tubes on the exhaust manifolds seems simple enough to remove those and plug them. rerouting the belt seems simple enough, but there are 2 large hoses on the passenger side coming from that black thingy (don't know what it is) going behind the engine. Also on the drivers side there is one large hose coming from some type of valve attached to the air tubes from the exhaust manifold. Thi hose disappears under the plenum. The question is where do they go? How do I plug them?

TIA

No need to plug them. They have built in one way valves. The air pump didn't just pump fresh air into the exhaust manifolds. It also pumped into the middle of the cat converter. That is why there are 3 connections. As for removing the pump....why? If you don't have a cat THEN it is a good idea. If you still have a cat then it's kind of dumb to get rid of the system. It's more like all or nothing in my eyes. I shouldn't say it's dumb because in my case I had to remove it. Something had gotten into the pump and was making a grinding noise so I didn't install it. Right now I need to get the car inspected and the AIR is something I have to reinstall. It helps completely burn off all the hydrocarbons passing through the exhaust. It also helps the cat warm up faster and do it's job.
Ignore my rant if you choose but it's a free country .

The CAT was removed by the previous owner.
so removing the pump is for cosmetic reasons.

Ok here goes the hose behind the engine can be removed very easily. Just take 1/2" pipe plugs and cap the ends of the air tubes or you can do what I did and plug them with 1/4" NPT easy enough. The 2 big hoses that you are talking about if I am following you correctly are not what you want to remove those are for coolant to flow through. Do they connect to a small black box with a cap on top of it if so DO NOT REMOVE THAT. You need the larger black box and pull the 3 small hoses off of that and unbolt the box and remove it. Then you will need a hex drive to remove the smog pulley itself dont remember the size off hand. You will need a 10mm socket to get the bolts off. Hopefully that is everything you need to know if not just ask again.

This portion of your post confuses me

"if I am following you correctly are not what you want to remove those are for coolant to flow through. Do they connect to a small black box with a cap on top of it if so DO NOT REMOVE THAT. You need the larger black box and pull the 3 small hoses off of that and unbolt the box and remove it."

which box? I only see one black box with hoses. could you possibaly post a link to pictures of your engine?

Sorry this is not my engine and I am not a photo master but you can see just behind the A/C condensor and to the right of the line coming from the Silver canister. That is the black box that I am talking about. And to the right of that box is the valve that I am talking about with the 2 big hoses coming from it. There are a few 10mm bolts holding that on you will need to remove the cover to get to one of them and to get to the connectors. Hope that helps just keep asking if it doesnt.
